Mediconsult Opens Sixth Office in Turku, Enhancing Local Work Opportunities

Next year, the Finnish company Mediconsult, specializing in social and healthcare information systems, will celebrate its 50th anniversary. At the beginning of September, it opened its sixth office in Turku, located in DataCity in Kupittaa.

Mediconsult already has a strong presence in Southwest Finland, having maintained an office in Salo since 2012. The company employs over 200 people across Finland, with an additional twenty or so in its subsidiary in Sri Lanka.

Initially, employees from Southwest Finland were primarily from the Salo area. After the pandemic, Mediconsult has recruited several new employees from the Turku region.

– We adapt to the times and evolve as needed. We have genuinely listened to our employees and, based on their feedback, started identifying suitable locations. We are pleased to offer a new local office for Mediconsult employees in Turku and its surroundings, states Mediconsult's HR Manager Fatbardhe Hetemaj.

Mediconsult employees reside throughout Finland, but many have an office close to home, with locations not only in Turku and Salo but also in Helsinki, Kuopio, Joensuu, and Oulu.

Nearly one in five of the new employees in 2024 is a returning worker

Thanks to the welfare area reform and successful bids in social and healthcare information system competitions, Mediconsult has become one of Finland's leading providers in this field. The workforce has also expanded; in 2024, 30 new employees joined the company, and in 2023, as many as 40 new hires were made. Nearly one in five of this year's new hires is a returning employee who has gained experience elsewhere before coming back to Mediconsult.

– Finding skilled professionals in the IT sector has been challenging for some time. According to employee surveys, many find working with tools for social and healthcare professionals meaningful. We value experience in the social and healthcare sector: we have experts with backgrounds as nurses, social workers, and doctors. We have also prepared for rapidly increasing customer numbers and simultaneous information system delivery projects by enhancing our expertise with capable partners, says Mediconsult's CEO Tommi Salaspuro.

Most Mediconsult employees work on-site about once a week. The company employs a flexible hybrid model that combines on-site and remote work.

– We want our staff to have a place reasonably close to home for meetings with colleagues and easy interaction. The hybrid model allows enjoying the flexibility of remote work while benefiting from the more communal office environment. We have received particularly positive feedback in employee satisfaction surveys about the good work atmosphere, team spirit, and work-life flexibility. I believe that the opportunity to visit a local office and get to know colleagues supports well-being and job satisfaction, adds Fatbardhe Hetemaj.
